Samora Correia

The Village of Samora Correia has registered existence of the middles of century XIII, having been institutionalized for Letter of Charter in 13 of April of 1510, donated for D. Manuel.

 

Small even so, for isolation circumstances, therefore it was placed in the left edge of the estuary of Tagus River, with a width of 8 km, where they appeared one 5 islets. Barren terrain at that time, without the actually  resources, did not fomented the setting human being, serving of paradise for the hunted ones of the noblemen.

 

The “Grande Lezíria” formed it the few, in the passed century, thanks to the raised trenches. Without communication ways, the proper beaten land roads were cut by the regular floods.

 

Nowadays thanks to its current situation of crossroads of roads, the isolation of long ago gave place to a great development making of the this most prosperous village of the District of Santarém.

 

The small initial population of 65 families, of one 300 people passed almost to the 20,000 actually habitants.

Samora Correia is a traditional village, situated in PORTUGAL about 40 km of Lisbon.

 

 

Has an area of 322,42 Km2 and conserves its primitive limits: Ribeira das Enguias,  Almansor River (also called “Old Tagus” or  “Samora Tagus”).

The Festivals

   Festival in honor of Nª Sr.ª de Oliveira and Nª Sr.ª de Guadalupe

             Celebrated in August coinciding with 3º Sunday of the month.                                             Bulls runs, concerts, processions, encierros, fados, etc.

   Feira of Samora Correia

             Celebrated in the  first end-of-week of May.

             Expositions, concerts, bull runs, etc.  

 

   Gastronomic Festival of the “Lezíria Ribatejana”

             Celebrated in the first week of July.

             Regional Cosine: “Cozido bravo á ribatejana”, “migas com entrecosto or bacalhau” 

 

   Carnival Samorense

             Corso carnavalesco”, bull runs and tradicional burial of “St. Entrudo”.

 

   Mensal Market

             First Saturday of the month.
